Tando Vutha is the founder and managing director of Ayavelisa Consulting. His experience spans more than 15 years in quantity surveying, project management, property development, feasibility investigations, project finance analysis, business and executive management. His experience covers an array of industries in which he has held both junior and senior executive management positions, together with a number of directorships.
He started his career as a trainee quantity surveyor in the Eastern Cape in 2001 and gradually grew into the position of associate partner in 2008 at the same firm. During this period, he was exposed to and managed an array of projects including offices, commercial, institutional and innovation centres.
It was also during this time that Tando was involved in loss adjustment, assisting in performing damage assessment for insurance claims. In addition, his participation in contractor development and mentorship for one of the provincial government’s Development Finance Institutions (DFI’s) saw him assisting emerging contractors with the overall business management and successful execution of their projects.
In 2008, Tando made his first foray into the business world when he joined an ICT solutions company that was part of a listed group as Group Executive Director: Business Development. His responsibilities included managing a multimillion-rand budget and taking the business to new markets.
Tando holds a B-Tech (Q.S.) degree from the Tshwane University of Technology and a National Diploma in Building from PE Technikon. He also attended the Property Development Programme offered by UCT Graduate School of Business in partnership with the South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA) in 2012. Tando is a registered Professional Quantity Surveyor with the South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession and is a professional member of the Association of South African Quantity Surveyors. He is a member of the South African Black Technical and Allied Careers Organisation (SABTACO).
